2011 Concordia College Women's Soccer Season Wrap-up

Bronxville, NY– The women’s soccer team at Concordia finished the season with a 2-13 record as the first 13 games of the season were played on the road because of unplayable field conditions at Holtdorf Soccer Field. The season had its ups and downs but the most memorable moment would occur at the end of the season.

The Clippers began the season last September 1st at St. Thomas Aquinas College with a close defeat. Two days later the team traveled to Lincoln University (PA) and Washington Adventist where Concordia took both wins and improve to 2-1 on the season.

Days later the Clippers began their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 5-1 loss at Felician College. Concordia would then get shutout in 7-of-11 games to end the season as fatigue would begin to show within the small roster size.

The most competitive game would occur on October 26th at Molloy College. Trailing 3-2 in the closing minutes of the game, the Clippers managed to net a game-tying goal in the 88th minute to send the match into overtime. Neither team could score in the first overtime but Molloy would capitalized on a corner kick opportunity which lead to the game-winning goal in the second overtime.

October 29th would mark the season finale as Concordia and Bloomfield took to the field. When both teams arrived there was snow on the ground and by the time the game started there was around two inches to play in and there was no stop in sight.

Both teams enjoyed playing soccer in the snowstorm but the officials called the match 13 minutes into the game claiming the field conditions were unplayable and not safe to continue. Players on both teams said they had a great time as the experience was memorable for everyone involved. Pictures from that event can be found here.

The Clippers will look forward to a productive 2012 season which is right around the corner. Be sure to visit ConcordiaClippers.com for their schedule when it is announced in the upcoming months.

Next week men’s soccer will be the featured season wrap-up when it is released on Friday, June 29th.
