Concordia (N.Y.) Cross-Country Finishes Third In Valiant Invitational

Purchase, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers cross-country teams were in action on Saturday as they ran in the Valiant Invitational at Manhattanville College. Both teams finished in third place and three runners placed in the top 10 overall.

In the men's race, Wendall Cory Brown (District Heights, Md.) finished a team best 8th place while teammate Corey Grosskopf (St. James, N.Y.) finished right behind him in 9th. Brown finished the 3.31 mile race with a time of 20:50 while Grosskopf finished at 20:57. "Grosskopf had one of his best races of his career and seems to be improving throughout the first two weeks of the season" stated Head Coach Anthony Vaglica.

Finishing in third for the men was Tamas Dobratka (Ada, Serbia) with a time of 21:42 in his first collegiate race. James Ebersole (San Antonio, Texas), Daniel Koehler (Glendale, N.Y.) and Martin Miedzowicz (Montevideo, Uruguay) rounded out the rest of the Clippers' times with 22:02, 22:17 and 22:28 respectively.

For the women, Shelley Monahan (Exeter, R.I.) had another impressive performance in only her second collegiate race placing sixth with a time of 20:20 in the 2.75 mile race. Katherine Spreitzer (New York, N.Y.) finished second for Concordia with a time of 25:01 while Jasmine McDonald (Inglewood, Calif.) finished third for the Clippers at 29:21.

Rita Boateng (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ashley Ledsema (New York, N.Y.) were the final two to finish for Concordia with times of 29:51 and 29:56 respectively. "With the impressive times on both sides it will be a momentum builder for next week's race" explained Vaglica.

The men and women will both race on Sunday, September 25th in the Hunter College Cross Country Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The women are set to begin their race at 10am while the men will start at 10:45am.
