Clippers open season 4-4 during Spring Break

The Clippers Softball team headed to Clermont, Florida for their Spring Break trip.  With eight games on the line-up for the Clippers they opened their week with a match-up with St. Anselm's.  The Clippers were successful on their first time on the softball field as they defeated St. Anselm's 12-5.  Dena Frederick went perfect for the first game hitting five for five including three doubles with two RBI's.  Rachel Cannata hit four for five while Jaime Lorenzo went three for five with two RBI's as well.  Alexa Rosella pitched to her first win of the season as she also batted three for five.  Kristina Patrocinio hit the Clippers first home run and added three RBI's for herself while Maria DeMartino also parked a ball and added three RBI's to her tally.  Theresa Magnani tossed her piece into the action as well hitting .585 for the game.

Next up for the Clippers was a double header with the Univesity of Mary and Gannon.  The Clippers pushed their first game with the University of Mary as they were tied at 4-4 after the standard seven innings.  In the eighth inning the Clippers were unable to round the bases as the University of Mary was able to do and the Clippers fell 4-5 in eight innings.

The Clippers tried to rally in their second game of Monday and were able to score in the fourth inning as Jaime Lorenzo crossed the plate after going two for two.  Gannon grabbed two more runs to make it three in the top of the fifth as they reclaimed the lead.  The Clippers tried to get back around but fell short and fell to Gannon 1-3.

Tuesday's game with the University of Mary gave the Clippers a chance to grab another win for themselves.  Once again the Clippers and the University of Mary went into extra innings as they were tied 2-2 after seven.  The Clippers this time were the ones to round the bases first and collected a 3-2 win in the eighth innings.

After having Wednesday off the Clippers returned to the field for another double header.  The Clippers met up with New York and old ECC rival Queens College first game of the day.  The Clippers fell behind after the first inning as Queens took the 3-0 lead.  The Clippers were able to gain two runs in the top of the second but the Knights of Queens College tacked on another run to maintain a two run lead.  Alexa Rosella dug down deep to hold off the Knights from that point on from the mound and it was up to the batters to help out her cause.  With two home runs hit by the Clippers; DeMartino and Patrocinio each collecting their second home run of the week; a triple from Patrocinio and doubles from Lorenzo and Rosella, helped the Clippers pushed to tied the game up and then take a two run lead for the win over the Knights; 6-4.

With the win over Queens the Clippers next got a rematch with Gannon University.  The Clippers started off well as they continued on the offensive with scoring one run in the second and then followed up with four runs in the third inning for a 5-0 lead.  Gannon gained a little ground with two runs in the fourth but the Clippers remained on a hot streak and scored four more runs before the game ended for a 9-2 win.  Jaime Lorenzo went three for four with three runs scored.  Rachel Cannata also went three for four while scoring twice and collecting two RBI's for her game.  Alexa Rosella hit two for three while Angela D'Amico tacked on two hits for herself.

The Clippers finished out the week on Friday with their last double header.  First up for the Clippers was CACC rival Felician College.  The Clippers continued to hit well as they scored six runs in the game.  Felician came on strong as well over taking the Clippers with eleven runs to capture the win.

The Clippers finished out their Spring Break trip with a game versus Rollins College.  The Clippers worked hard in the game with Rollins but were unfortunately unable to round all the bases.  Rollins grabbed seven runs to grab the game from the Clippers.

The Clippers return home to New York with a 4-4 record on the week and will head to NYIT on Tuesday, March 10th for a double header.
