Concordia Splits Conference Games against Bloomfield with 13-0 Win and 8-3 Loss

Bloomfield, NJ – The Concordia College softball team played their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games on Thursday afternoon against Bloomfield College. The Clippers split the doubleheader with the Deacons as they won game one, 13-0, but loss game two, 8-3.

Concordia started off game one with 11 runs in the first three innings. Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) would hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give the Clippers a 2-0 lead. Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, NY) added an RBI in the second inning and two batters later Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) added a three-run homerun to give Concordia a 7-0 lead.

Maria DeMartino (Staten Island, NY) drove in a run in the third inning off her RBI single and Pisciotta hit another three-run home run to give the Clippers an 11-0 lead. Magnani pitched a four-hit complete game shutout in the victory as she struck out three batters.

In game two, Kristina Patrocinio (Edison, NJ) drove in the first run for Concordia after a sacrifice fly to right field scored DeMartino during the first inning. Bloomfield would score in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.

The Clippers could not find their rhythm offensively as they were unable to score another run until the sixth inning. The Deacons managed to take a 5-1 lead after scoring a run in each of the first five innings.

In the top of the sixth, Concordia got two more runs off the bat of D'Amico's two-run home run as they now trailed 5-3. Bloomfield would put the game away in their next at-bats with three more runs to win 8-3 and split the doubleheader with the Clippers.

Amanda Ramirez (Lindenhurst, NY) pitched 2.0 innings in the second game as she allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks in a losing effort. Magnani came in for relief to finish the last 4.0 innings allowing six earned runs on seven hits and six walks.

Concordia (4-5, 1-1 CACC) will play a doubleheader this Sunday against Chestnut Hill College. The Clippers will be playing in their first home games of the season and first pitch will take place at 1pm at Clipper Softball Field.
