Clippers Drop Two Games on the Road against Wilmington
New Castle, DE – The Concordia College softball team traveled to face the Wilmington Wildcats in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Clippers fell in both games, 5-1, as the Wildcats remain perfect in CACC play with a 6-0 record.
Game one began as a pitcher's duel with a total of three hits being recorded during the opening three innings. Wilmington would score the first runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats brought home two more runs in the fifth as the Clippers struggled to get on the scoreboard.
In the top of the seventh, Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. Concordia could not bring home any more runs as Wilmington took game one, 5-1.
Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, NY) pitched a complete game as she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in the loss. The Clippers' offense recorded two hits in the game and struck out a season-high 11 times.
In game two, the Wildcats managed to get their runs early in the game with an RBI single in the first, a solo home run in the second and a bases loaded walk to take a 3-0 advantage. A leadoff home run in the third by Wilmington added another run as Concordia continued to struggle offensively.
The Clippers scored their lone run in the top of the fourth as Nicole Spadaro (Merrick, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) from third base. The Wildcats added one more run in the fifth as Concordia dropped a 5-1 decision. Amanda Ramirez (Lindenhurst) pitched 6.0 innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits in the defeat.
Concordia (8-11, 5-7 CACC) will be back on the road this Thursday to battle the Caldwell Cougars. The CACC doubleheader is set to begin at 2pm in Caldwell, NJ.
