Irvine, Calif. – The Concordia (N.Y.) Clippers women's volleyball team concluded their California trip on Saturday with two losses. They lost 3-0 in the first game to Biola and then lost to Concordia (Calif.) 3-0 in the second game.
In the game against Biola, the Clippers were able to keep pace in the first set as they only trailed 9-7 during the early stages of the match. But that was close as Concordia was going to get as Biola went on a 9-0 scoring run and eventually took the set 25-12.
The second set was a mirror image of what happened in the first set. The Clippers trailed 9-7 and then Biola went on another run to eventually win the set 25-12.
In the final set, Concordia played very well as they managed to keep close for most of the set. Both teams were tied 13-13 midway through until Biola rallied off four points in a row to take a slight lead. The Clippers did manage to cut the deficit but were unable to take the lead. Biola, who is currently ranked #5 in the NAIA, won the final set 25-19 to win the match.
In the second game, the Clippers faced off against the host of the Asics Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament, Concordia (Calif.) who is also their sister school. In the first set, the Clippers only trailed 7-6 before the Eagles went on an 18-4 run to take the set 25-10.
The Eagles were on a hot streak entering the second set and won 25-6 behind good teamwork. The Clippers entered the third set ready to hold their ground as they scored the first two points. The final set was played more evenly and Concordia (N.Y.) trailed only 15-11 midway through the set. The Eagles once again were able to put the game away in the later stages and won the set 25-15.
