The Clippers hosted the Dowling College Golden Lions today in non-conference Men's Tennis Action. The Clippers jumped out to a 3-0 start after the doubles in a little over a half an hour of play.
Andreas Lindell and David Tisserand, hitting in the double second flight. The pair dropped the initial game of the match. Lindell and Tisserand then brought their strong serves and were able to gain the game back to go up 2-1. Lindell and Tisserand then took the next six games as they kept their serves strong and also came into net with soem great volley shots. Lindell and Tisserand came away with an 8-1 match score.
Ricardo Frey and Felix Missal, hit at the number three double flight, and were on a mission from the get go. The pair kept their shots low across the net and were able to back each other up on their way to an 8-0 easy win.
Andrey Boldarev and Daniele Piludu, in their usual number one doubles flight, started off strong as they went up 3-0. Unforced errors plagued their next game but the pair were able to regain control and only let the one slip past. With a couple of surprising net shots from both Boldarev and Piludu , the pair rolled through the remaining games and were victorious with an 8-1 win.
Geza Bazula was the first off the courts in the singles matches. Bazula came into net for volleys and was able to force errors. A little more than twenty minutes on court Bazula came off with a 6-0; 6-0 win.
Tamas Dobrotka was next off the singles courts. Dobrotka played a serve and volley game for awhile at the same time he would push his opponent from sideline to sideline with long baseline rallies. Letting only two games slip by, and in the first set alone, Dobrotka came away with the Clippers fifth point of the team match with scores of 6-2; 6-0.
Daniele Piludu, hit at the number one singles flight and had little trouble in the first set with a 6-0 score. Piludu's second set was a struggle at first as second serves and a few unforced errors came into play on Piludu's side. Piludu was down 2-3 before stepping up as he was able to turn the tide to his favor and go up 4-3. Piludu then finished his match with a couple of service returns and aces for a 6-3 second set win.
Andreas Lindell, at the number four singles flight, was on and off the court, almost within a blink of an eye. Lindell gained ground with mukitple forehand winners going from cross court to down the line. Lindell was off with a straight set 6-0; 6-0 victory.
Ricardo Frey had a couple of long hitting rallies on his way to victory. Frey continued to move in occassionally to a couple of forehand winners on his route to his 6-1; 6-0 win giving the Clippers their eighth match point.
Dane Ostilly rounded out the Clippers singles matches with his strong shots off of his forehand while making his service games prominate. Ostilly came away with a 6-0; 6-0 straight set victory for the Clippers sweep of the Golden Lions.
The Clippers will head to Philadelphia University this Saturday as they continue their CACC season.
