WINTER PARK, Fla. - The 25th-ranked Concordia Clippers men's tennis team dropped their first match of the season on Tuesday as the 14th-ranked Rollins Tars took a 7-2 victory at the Bert Mertin Tennis Complex.
Rollins would sweep doubles action as the No. 3 duo of freshman Henry Masters (Northampton, England) and freshman Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) fell to Sami Kirberg and Frederick Danielson, 8-1. Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo Nicolas topped juniors Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy), 8-4, in the No. 1 match while freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) were upended by Ziad Melhaoui and Atakan Gezer in the No. 2 match.
Nilsson began singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in his No. 5 match against Salvadore Bolanos as Masters would fall 6-1, 6-0 against Nicolas in his No. 3 match. Daniel Ferl earned the match-clinching victory for Rollins in the No. 4 match as he would defeat freshman Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) 6-0, 6-0. Concordia's other singles win came in the No. 1 match as Chevalier battled to a 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (7) victory over De Fraia. Evangelisti would come up short in his No. 2 match, falling to Kirberg 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 as Fenoaltea's match would be last one to conclude as he dropped a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (9) decision to Cody Gubin in the No. 6 match.
The Clippers (3-1) will next visit Florida Tech on Thursday afternoon for a 12 p.m. match in Satellite Beach, Fla.
