Men’s and Women’s Tennis Take On Region’s Best At ITA Regional

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) men's and women's tennis teams, both ranked as the top team in the East Region by the ITA in their most recent polls, head to Flushing, N.Y. to take part in the annual ITA East Regional. Play beings on Friday, Sept. 14 and continues through Monday, Sept. 17.

About the Clippers Women's Team
Concordia (1-1) goes into the ITA event following a 7-0 victory over Molloy on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Senior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) claimed victories at the top flight in both singles and doubles play, teaming up with sophomore Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) to best the Lions' top doubles pair 6-0.

At the 2017 ITA East Regional, both Putschbach and fellow sophomore Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) won five total matches with Putschbach posting three-straight singles' triumphs to make it out of the qualifying rounds and into the Round of 32 to go with back-to-back wins in doubles with senior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) while Hantzis and sophomore Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) reached the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket with three victories on top of two wins in singles play.

About the Clippers Men's Team
The Concordia College men's team takes part in its first contests of the fall after a successful a 17-5 campaign during the 2017-18 academic year that saw the Clippers claim the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship and advance to the NCAA National Championship quarterfinals.

At the 2017 ITA East Regional, Alessandro Evangelisti and junior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) claimed the doubles championship with Chevalier advancing to the championship match of the singles draw and Evangelisti reaching the semifinals.

The Clippers begin CACC play on Tuesday, Sept. 18 against Caldwell at 3 p.m.
